WOLVERHAMPTON PURCHASE CREATES UK’S LARGEST MERCEDES VAN TERRITORY

INCHCAPE’s Gerard Mann network has bought solus van and truck dealer Neachells Hall Garage in Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, for an undisclosed sum.

This creates the biggest Mercedes Benz commercial vehicle territory in the country.
Mann is segregating its CV operations from cars at its Birmingham and Coventry locations and grouping them with Willenhall, now trading as Gerard Mann Commercials. Gerry Smith, who has 15 years’ CV experience with Ford, Volvo and MAN, has been appointed CV general manager.
The acquisition opportunity was created by Mercedes restructuring its CV territories, according to Inchcape, which expects management of Gerard Mann Mercedes car operations to focus better on the brand’s expanding range.
An Inchcape spokeswoman declined to say how many CVs the Mann businesses are hoping to sell but, including cars, sales are expected to top 3,000 units and £85m in a year.
Nationally, Mercedes is enjoying a boom year for van and truck sales.
According to a spokesman, van sales for the year to date are up nearly 18 per cent at 16,700 units, while trucks are up 16 per cent at 7,400.
