TWO dealer groups have mobilised in separate moves to grab a bigger slice of the action in Glasgow.

Taggarts Motor Group is to replace its former Nissan franchise in Glasgow with a specialist used car operation called Taggarts Specialist Car Complex catering for high prestige marques like Mercedes and Porsche.
The new Taggarts showroom, alongside a Jaguar complex run by the company has been awaiting development since Taggarts stopped representing Nissan in June of last year.
Taggarts boss, Joe Nimmo said: “Our trade in used cars is running at 60 per cent up, so there is obviously scope for such an operation.”
Nimmo said he plans to further develop the 4-acre site, with only half of it in use with the Jaguar and Specialist Car Complex at present.
Taggarts represents Jag-uar, Renault, Rover, and Land Rover in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Meanwhile Glasgow-based Shields Motor Group has taken on the Land Rover franchise in the city replacing Gaulds. Shields Group boss Joe ‘O Donnell said: “We are excited about the prospects for Land Rover. I believe it is a franchise with an exciting future.
Initially, the new Land Rover facility will be sited in a refurbished bodyshop at the company’s five-acre auto-park in Shields Road, near the Kingston Bridge, Glasgow.
But, within a year, a new sales and servicing complex will be established for Land Rover on the site, said O’Donnell.
Shields, launched in June 1994 with a Rover franchise, and 35 employees, now has a staff of more than 100 representing four marques.
