DEVON POLICEDROP VI CASE

A SENIOR vehicle examiner in the Vehicle Inspectorate will not be prosecuted following a police decision to take no further action against him.

Ralph Wogan, who was the senior vehicle examiner responsible for car MoT standards in garages in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, as well as for truck operators’ maintenance standards in those counties, had been under investigation for allegedly disconnecting a number of car speedometers before selling on the cars.
Wogan, who is currently unwell, had also been investigated by police for the alleged theft of a number of car MoT certificates from his employer.
In a statement, Devon and Cornwall police said, “The traffic branch has carried out a lengthy and comprehensive investigation. The decision to take no further action against Mr. Wogan was reached following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.”
VI management had refused to give police a statement of complaint on the alleged theft of the MoT certificates. “The VI had its own internal action to consider and its own employee to consider – an employee who isn’t at all well. The question of a statement to police didn’t arise,” said a spokesman.
